Greetings Woods Families,

My name is Mr. Taylor and I am honored to be the Principal of G.T. Woods School.  We are ready to conquer any obstacle to achieve a successful and fabulous year! A new school year is always exciting.. However, this year does bring new challenges for everyone. Our focus will be on providing each child with learning opportunities that will result in a rewarding school experience. Academic emphasis on the Common Core content areas of Literacy and Mathematics will remain a priority as well as providing a learning program in Science and Social Studies that builds each year to reach Louisiana State Standards.

Our goal is to challenge your children intellectually, grow them socially, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving. As we strive to promote healthy development in all aspects of each student's life we also strive to develop a student body of good character; students who make good choices and decisions resulting in successful and healthy outcomes.

School Day: School is in session from 8:00a.m.- 2:50p.m. Students may come on campus for 7:30 a.m. for breakfast.  Students will arrive at school by 8:00a.m. and are considered tardy at 8:05a.m. Please make every effort to be on time and always present for school. 

Late Arrivals/Leaving Early/Returning to School: At any time when you are bringing your child in late, taking your child out early or bringing your child back to school, you must sign your child in or out in the office. At Woods School, we offer our students a quality education that is led by an excellent educational faculty and staff, but students can’t learn if they aren’t here! Send medical notes to school to have an absence excused. Truancy may be contacted for excessive absences or tardiness.

School Bags: PreK-5th (mesh, clear plastic or solid-colored) & 6th-8th (clear plastic or mesh)

School Uniforms: All students are expected to wear their school uniform every day.  Masks are a part of the uniform and must be worn every day.  IDs must be worn everyday by every student. The cost of the ID is $5.00.  There is no student fee this year.

Outerwear (jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, coats, etc.) must not cover the uniform shirt. Hoodies may be worn, but hoods may not be worn inside the buildings.  

Cell Phones: Per JPPSS policy, students are allowed to have a cell phone on campus, but the phone must be powered off and put away at all times.  Phones are not allowed to be used in the classroom, library, cafeteria, restroom or PE.

 

Picking up children from school: It will be necessary for you to call the school when the normal mode of transportation has changed. We will only allow the child to leave with the person who is designated ON THE EMERGENCY CARD AND PRESENTS IDENTIFICATION. This is a safety issue, not a personal issue.

Please note: All calls to pick up your child or any transportation changes must be made by 2:00p.m. Please adhere to these guidelines – keeping in mind that safety is first! There will be no check-outs after 2:00p.m.

Entering the building: All visitors must enter through the main entrance and must report directly to the front desk to have their temperature taken. We have a single point of entry.  

Parent/Teacher Conferences: You are encouraged to communicate with your child’s teacher.  If you need to have a conference with your child’s teacher during the school year, please contact the school office or email the teacher directly and an appointment will be arranged. We know that a strong line of communication between the school and home will aid in your child having a positive educational experience.

Parent Portal: You can view your child’s academic portfolio online!  Please see Mrs. Joi in the office for the forms to fill out.

School Cash Online (SCO): is the new online store for G.T Woods School. Using SCO, families are able to efficiently pay for fees, ID fees and purchase spirit items, just to name a few possibilities. On-Line Learning (Virtual): students that are in virtual school are expected to follow all District Attendance and Behavior Policies.

Mi nombre es Sr. Taylor y es un honor para mí ser el director de G.T. Woods. ¡Estamos listos para vencer cualquier obstáculo para lograr un año exitoso y fabuloso! Un nuevo año escolar siempre es emocionante. Sin embargo, este año trae nuevos desafíos para todos. Nuestro enfoque estará en brindar a cada niño oportunidades de aprendizaje que resulten en una experiencia escolar gratificante. El énfasis académico en las áreas de contenido básico común de alfabetización y matemáticas seguirá siendo una prioridad, así como también proporcionará un programa de aprendizaje en ciencias y estudios sociales que se construye cada año para alcanzar los Estándares del Estado de Louisiana.

Nuestro objetivo es desafiar a sus hijos intelectualmente, hacerlos crecer socialmente y guiarlos hacia el pensamiento independiente y la resolución de problemas. Día escolar: La escuela está en sesión de 8:00a.m. a 2:50p.m. Los estudiantes pueden venir al campus a las 7:30 a.m. para desayunar. Los estudiantes llegarán a la escuela a las 8:00 a.m. y se consideran tarde a las 8:05 a.m. Por favor, haga todo lo posible por llegar a tiempo y estar siempre presente en la escuela.

Llegadas Tarde / Salidas Temprano / Regreso a la Escuela: En cualquier momento cuando traiga a su hijo tarde, lo saque temprano o lo traiga de regreso a la escuela, debe firmar la entrada o salida de su hijo en la oficina. En la Escuela Woods, ofrecemos a nuestros estudiantes una educación de calidad dirigida por un excelente cuerpo docente y personal educativo, ¡pero los estudiantes no pueden aprender si no están aquí! Envíe notas médicas a la escuela para justificar la ausencia. Es posible que lo contacten de la oficina de absentismo escolar por ausencias o tardanzas excesivas.

Mochilas Escolares: PreK-5to. (malla, plástico transparente o de un solo color) y 6to-8vo (plástico transparente o malla)

Uniformes Escolares: Se espera que todos los estudiantes usen su uniforme escolar todos los días. Las mascarillas son parte del uniforme y deben usarse todos los días. Todos los estudiantes deben usar identificaciones todos los días. El costo de la identificación es de $5.00. No hay cuota para estudiantes este año.

La ropa de abrigo (chaquetas, sudaderas, suéteres, abrigos, etc.) no debe cubrir la camisa del uniforme. Se pueden usar sudaderas con capucha, pero no se pueden usar capuchas dentro de los edificios.

Teléfonos Celulares: según la política de JPPSS, los estudiantes pueden tener un teléfono celular en el campus, pero el teléfono debe estar apagado y guardado en todo momento. No se permite el uso de teléfonos en el salón de clases, biblioteca, cafetería, baño o educación física.

 

Recogiendo a los niños de la escuela: Será necesario que llame a la escuela cuando haya cambiado el modo normal de transporte. Solo permitiremos que el niño se vaya con la persona designada EN LA TARJETA DE EMERGENCIA Y PRESENTANDO IDENTIFICACIÓN. Este es un problema de seguridad, no un problema personal.

Tenga en Cuenta: Todas las llamadas para recoger a su hijo o cualquier cambio de transporte deben hacerse antes de las 2:00 p.m. Siga estas pautas, ¡Teniendo en cuenta que la seguridad es lo primero! No habrá salidas después de las 2:00 p.m.

Conferencias de Padres y Maestros: Se le anima a comunicarse con el maestro de su hijo. Sabemos que una sólida línea de comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar ayudará a que su hijo tenga una experiencia educativa positiva.

Portal para Padres: ¡puede ver el portafolio académico de su hijo en línea! Por favor vea a la Sra. Joi en la oficina para completar los formularios.
