Schneckenburger’s 2020 Teacher of the Year is Cinthia Mejia. Ms. Mejia came to the U.S. at the age of four from Honduras. She has lived in Kenner for 33 years and married her husband, Melvin Mejia in 2007. For seven years, she worked as an ESL paraprofessional at Roosevelt Middle School. During her years working at Roosevelt, Jeanne Monte, Dean of Students made her realize that it was never too late to go back to school. She enrolled at UNO as a non-traditional student and majored in elementary education. She is currently certified in Early Education PK-3 and Elementary Education 1-5. In fact, Ms. Mejia did her student teaching here at Schneckenburger in a second grade class with Mrs. Hightower, TLF and was hired at the end of the semester. In her free time, she enjoy shopping and going to the movies with family and friends. Ms. Mejia was very excited to receive the Teacher of the Year, and she wants to thank the faculty and staff for their support.
