JP Schools, Children's Hospital New Orleans Partner on Student Wellness Initiative

Through an innovative partnership with Children’s Hospital New Orleans, Jefferson Parish Schools will begin implementing the ThriveKids Student Wellness Program, the first comprehensive student wellness initiative across the region that provides care coordination.

This free, voluntary program allows for a coordination of care by streamlining communication amongst students, families, school nurses, health care providers, and school social workers. Through the ThriveKids Student Wellness Program, JP staff will receive professional education and training, and the district will have access to a dedicated medical director.

The ThriveKids Student Wellness Program will bridge a communication gap and provide clarity regarding a student’s health. It will also help to further identify a child’s medical need so that additional resources can be provided. This program will also help to identify what specific barriers exist and will create an opportunity to expand on assistance that may not have otherwise been recognized.

These benefits will help improve attendance and academics for students in Jefferson Parish Schools. “This exciting partnership allows those who come in contact with our students' health to be on the same page. This level of clarity and communication regarding our students' health is important now more than ever, and will lead to a safer learning environment for our children,” said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. James Gray.
