Superintendent's Message: October 2, 2020
JP Schools Family,
With a month of school under our belts, it’s finally feeling like fall. Extracurriculars are underway, classrooms are being decorated for the season and students are in a positive mindset for learning. Thank you for everything you're doing to ensure that our students receive the education they deserve. We have asked a lot of you since the beginning of this pandemic, and you have risen to the occasion. We, at JP Schools, are doing all that we can to promote a positive teaching and learning environment for our students and educators.
To help better support all our families, students, teachers and employees, we are continuing the tradition of Superintendent’s Councils. These councils give our JP Schools stakeholders a seat at the table and have been critical to gaining insights that help inform our decision-making at the district-level. Parents, students, teachers and principals are encouraged to apply by the October 7 deadline. Application information can be found here.
On Monday, JP Schools opened the application period to enroll in an Advanced Study Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. Advanced Study Academies are designed to expose the most capable students to a challenging and accelerated curriculum. To be eligible for admissions, students must first meet the requirements for testing and then score in the 85th percentile or higher on the ASA admissions test. Visit jpschools.org/asa to apply before October 16 at 6 p.m.
Additionally, I want to remind families that interim reports were released this week. These reports show how your child is progressing half-way through the nine-week period and can help inform where your child may need additional support in the second half of the quarter. Printed copies were sent home this week. Parents can view and print an electronic copy by logging into their Student Progress Center accounts and clicking on the "Documents" tab. Parents should contact their child’s school if they need to create an account.
Our school leaders, teachers, and support staff have been doing an incredible job instructing our students while navigating these new circumstances. Additionally, we would not be where we are without the support of our families. We have set a strong foundation for a successful school year, and I am thankful to everyone who has helped make the start of school as smooth as possible. Together, we will create the future our students deserve.
Regards,
Dr. James Gray
