Teacher Spotlight: Jennifer Cowart, Schneckenburger Elementary
Jennifer Cowart is a 4th grade teacher at Schneckenburger Elementary.
What would students be surprised to find out about you?
I married my high school sweetheart and we are celebrating our 20 year anniversary this year!
What is something you wish you’d have known as a first-year teacher?
The most important things happen within the four walls of your classroom. If your students walk out of the room having learned anything more than they knew coming in, it was a successful day. Don't sweat the small stuff.
How do you spend your summer breaks?
I spend my summers making memories with my two beautiful daughters and recharging for the upcoming school year.
If you were to be given a superlative when you were in school, what would it have been?
Best shoulder to cry on.
What is your spirit animal and why?
My spirit animal is a dolphin because I appreciate that sometimes you just have to have fun and enjoy the moment. Communication is key, and I will always protect those that I love.
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
Anything New Kids on the Block:)
If you could take your students on a field trip anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
At this point I would take them anywhere. So many of our students haven't been out of the city of Kenner, but I would love to take them to visit the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. So much of our fourth grade curriculum revolves around Earth's features and resources. Just by showing them pictures and videos of the canyon they are in awe. To be able to experience the beauty of rock layers, weathering and erosion, landforms, and the benefits of the dam would be amazing!
Describe your perfect classroom. A well organized classroom with creative anchor charts, lots of storage space, my own AC unit, and smiling, engaged students. There would be purposeful conversations amongst everyone.
What did your 15 year old self think you would be doing as a career?
Honestly, my 15 year old self was already planning to become a teacher.
What is your dream vacation?
I love to share new experiences with my family, so as long as we are together I would try anything.
