Superintendent's Weekly Message: October 30, 2020
JP Schools Family,
I hope you and your family continue to be well and stay safe. As we know Hurricane Zeta is yet another hurdle for us to overcome, I want to keep you informed as much as possible. Therefore, here is a brief update about our current status and next steps.
We spent yesterday assessing damages at our schools and in the grand scheme of things, we are very fortunate. The majority of our campuses suffered minor damage, like downed tree limbs, fence damages, and small roof leaks. A few of our campuses suffered more extensive damage, including Fisher, Strehle, and Gretna Middle. Thankfully, our team is working on repairs to get all buildings up and running as soon as possible.
Our plant staff and our Operations team are hard at work today cleaning up our campuses. Since the majority of our campuses are still without power, returning to school will be predicated on power being restored. We will keep our employees and our families posted as we get more information. We will provide another update on Sunday, November 1 regarding school on Monday, November 2.
Since the beginning of this school year, we have had several interruptions to our education processes. Each interruption required us to make adjustments. Due to Hurricane Zeta, we wanted to ensure that we gave our teachers ample opportunity to complete all grading processes for the 1st nine weeks. As a result, report cards will now go out on Wednesday, November 11 instead of Wednesday, November 4. Parent teacher conferences will also be pushed back to November 11-13.
All ASA testing scheduled for Saturday, October 31 will also be rescheduled. Families will receive a new testing date via email. If families have any questions, they can email Ashley Bowman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
