JP Schools Counselors Win Louisiana Student Council Advisor Awards
A pair of Jefferson Parish Schools educators were honored at the state level for their work with student leaders.
The Louisiana Association of Student Councils named Meisler Middle's Mary Ann Robarts and Haynes Academy's Chris Totaro Outstanding Student Council Advisors. Robarts won at the middle school level and Totaro won for high school. Robarts has now won the award twice, which is a first in LASC history. The announcement came during the LASC state convention in Covington in January.
Totaro has been a part of the student council for more than 20 years and is a member of the student council board. His experience has helped the Haynes Academy student council grow to over 100 students.
Robarts calls Meisler Middle’s student council small and mighty. She says her students have learned what it means to be a leader and how to serve others.
