Superintendent's Weekly Message: Nov. 13, 2020
JP Schools Family,
This has been a week filled with many opportunities to connect with our students, parents, and teachers. I truly enjoy getting out into the community. Unfortunately, the pandemic has made this challenging. As a result, we have found creative ways to build meaningful opportunities to connect while still adhering to our safety protocols.
On Monday, we launched Discovery Days with a school tour and faculty meeting at John Ehret High. During my visit, I saw teachers providing simultaneous instruction to virtual and in-person students. Additionally, students were in a positive mindset for learning and enjoyed being in class. Following the school visit, we met with some parents via a Virtual Town Hall.
We also launched our Superintendent’s Councils this week and gained valuable feedback from teachers, principals, students, parents and special education representatives. These first meetings laid the groundwork and the agendas for future Superintendent’s Council meetings. Many of the questions raised were relative to topics on which our team is already working internally to discuss and troubleshoot. These topics include virtual learning, strengthening communication between schools and the central office administration, and support for student and teacher mental and emotional health. We want to be transparent about the topics covered during our council meetings and also offer additional opportunities for feedback from those outside the council, so we will be sharing a summary of those meetings soon. We look forward to continuing these conversations and developing solutions that enhance student success.
Because we are committed to always incorporating community feedback, we value the time we are taking to allow stakeholders to have a voice that will impact our decision-making process. By working together, we will be the champions our students deserve.
Regards,
Dr. James Gray
