Suicide Prevention Assembly, February 21st

  • Dear Parents of Thomas Jefferson High School,
Children’s Hospital of New Orleans has sponsored a showing of My Ascension. My Ascension is a feature length documentary that chronicles Emma Benoit’s inspiring journey as she worked to bring Hope Squad, a school-based suicide prevention program to Louisiana. Emma was a 16-year-old varsity cheerleader from a Louisiana high school who attempted suicide.

On February 21st, we will learn first-hand from families, friends, school officials, and suicide prevention experts about the devastating effects of suicide and what can be done to prevent it.

My Ascension shines light on the reality of this ongoing public health crisis and is positively impacting lives of young people, families, schools, and communities by sharing hope, information, and best practices that can be replicated around the world. When suicide attempt survivors, such as Emma, share their stories of recovery, it often prevents others from attempting it.

The 90-minute film screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

You can contact Kylan Hankinson or Suzette Addison at (504) - 363 - 4300, the school’s Mental Health Professionals, if you have any questions.
