Superintendents From Around The State Visit JP Schools

Superintendents from around the state visited our district to collaborate and see how JP Schools implements social emotional learning to improve academic outcomes and behaviors. Superintendent Avis Williams from New Orleans Public Schools, Superintendent Theodis Goree from Caddo Parish Public Schools, and Superintendent Sito Narcisse from East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools visited several schools with Dr. Gray.

The tour began at Audubon Elementary School where Principal Rhonda Johnson talked about the Leader in Me program, and students discussed the impact that the seven habits have had on their lives. At G.T. Woods Elementary, Principal Shelly Deemer showcased their Wellness Room as superintendents sat in on a Community Circle group discussion. During their visit to Riverdale High School, Principal Danielle Yunusah gave everyone a tour of their School Based Health Center. The day concluded as members of the district’s Teen Wellness Council gave insight on the issues many students are facing.

When students have supportive relationships and opportunities to develop and practice social, emotional, and cognitive skills across many different contexts, academic learning accelerates.
