JP Schools Provides an Update on the Availability of Employee Vaccinations

JP Schools Family,

I want to provide an update on vaccinations for school employees. As you may have heard, there have been delays nationally and locally with vaccine distribution. We are grateful that school employees are still considered a priority with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). When the LDH launched its phased vaccination rollout, the plan that we had established allowed for some of our employees to receive the vaccine as part of Phase 1B, Tier 1. The remainder of our employees are in line to receive the vaccine during Phase 1B, Tier 2. Unfortunately, we still do not have a date for when the state will move into this phase. However, we are prepared to move quickly once we receive notification that the vaccine is available for our employees.

As of today, 73% of employees who completed our questionnaire indicated they would like to receive the vaccination as an employee of Jefferson Parish Schools. This is great news, and we encourage all employees to consider being vaccinated. Ideally, we hope to designate district-wide vaccination days to make the process as quick and convenient as possible. We hope to announce more information about the vaccination schedule soon.

Whether or not an individual receives the vaccine, we will continue to follow our Start Strong Jefferson protocols - such as mask wearing, frequent hand washing, and social distancing - to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and uniformly align with positive, healthy and safe behaviors.

Thank you for your support throughout the year.

Dr. James Gray
