April 29, 2021
U.S. News & World Report released its 2021 Best High Schools rankings, and three schools in the Jefferson Parish Schools ranked among the top five in the state. The ranking includes more than 17,800 public high schools throughout the country and measures how well those schools serve students from various social and economic backgrounds. The highest ranked schools in Jefferson Parish Schools are:
- Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy ranked second in the state and 75th nationally.
- Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies ranked third in the state and 121st nationally.
- Thomas Jefferson Academy for Advanced Studies ranked fifth in the state and 246th nationally.
“This ranking is a testament to the high-quality education available in Jefferson Parish,” said Dr. James Gray, Superintendent of JP Schools. “I commend the school leadership, educators and support employees for driving success on campus and pushing for the best outcomes for their students. This is an incredible honor for these three schools and the families and students they serve.”
The ranking focuses on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates. College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. The data used to determine the 2021 rankings is from the 2018-19 academic school year, and therefore was not affected by the pandemic.
