Jefferson Parish Schools Names its Principals of the Year
Jefferson Parish Schools named its district winners for the Louisiana Department of Education’s Principal of the Year. The following principals are now eligible to become the 2021 Louisiana Principal of the Year.
- Schneckenburger Elementary – Christi Rome
- Adams Middle – Jason Beber
- Riverdale High – Danielle Yunusah
“These three educators are making gains with the teachers and students on their campus,” said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley.” Having served as a principal myself, I know the responsibilities they hold and the opportunities they have to make lives better for children. I’m proud to have these three instructional leaders represent Jefferson Parish Schools.”
In partnership with the Louisiana Association of Principals, the Louisiana Department of Education annually honors the state’s most exceptional educators through the Principal of the Year program. The Louisiana Principal of the Year awards program provides an opportunity to acknowledge those educators who are making exceptional gains with students.
Schneckenburger Elementary Principal Christi Rome is the JP Schools Elementary School Principal of the Year. Rome is in her fourth year as principal of Schneckenburger. Her school has been recognized by the Louisiana Department of Education as a high-poverty, high-performing school and a Top Gains honoree for student growth.
“The team here at Schneckenburger is outstanding,” said Rome. “We do a lot of things with our community. We put kids first.”
Adams Middle Principal Jason Beber is the JP Schools Middle School Principal of the Year. Beber is in his second year as principal of Adams. He was previously a principal in St. John the Baptist Parish, where he was named their elementary and middle school principal of the year in 2017-18.
“My teachers and staff are always engaged in conversations about how we can get better for kids, and the kids are showing that they are motivated and want to learn,” said Beber. “This speaks to the team that I have here at Adams. Principals need a great team to succeed.”
Riverdale High Principal Danielle Yunusah is the JP Schools High School Principal of the Year. Yunusah has been the principal at RHS for five years. Riverdale High is an A-rated school by the Louisiana Department of Education. Under Yunusah’s leadership, Riverdale has seen increases in the school’s graduation rate, ACT index, college enrollment, and in the number of students earning an industry-based credential prior to graduation.
“Riverdale High School epitomizes equity in everything we do.” said Yunusah. “We are an open enrollment high school, whose mission is to empower all students to achieve excellence. In doing so, we teach students to push themselves beyond what they think they are capable of accomplishing.”
