Airline Park Academy, Gretna No. 2 Academy Named National Blue Ribbon Schools

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded two Jefferson Parish Schools with the 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. Airline Park Academy and Gretna No. 2 Academy are among 325 schools around the nation to receive this prestigious honor.

“Congratulations to these schools for receiving this well deserved award. This prestigious academic award is a reflection of the progress that continues to be made across the district,” said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. James Gray.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which is managed by the U.S. Department of Education, honors schools that are either high-performing or have closed achievement gaps, especially among minority or disadvantaged students. These schools demonstrate great achievements.

The two JP Schools are being recognized as “Exemplary High Performing Schools.” They are among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments. Their student subgroup performance and high school graduation rates are also at the highest levels.

This is the first time Airline Park Academy has received the honor, the second for Gretna No. 2 Academy and 17 for JP Schools since the National Blue Ribbon Program began in 1982.

Past JP Schools winners include: Grace King High (82-83), Bissonet Plaza Elementary (85-86), Rillieux Elementary (85-86), Bonnabel High (86-87), Riviere Elementary (87-88), Patrick F. Taylor Academy (2010), Metairie Academy (2011), Gretna No. 2 Academy (2012), Dolhonde Elementary (2013), Haynes Academy (2013), Clancy-Maggiore Elementary (2016), Haynes Academy, Patrick F.
