Superintendent's Message: October 9, 2020

JP Schools Family,

We are at the end of our first six weeks, and I want to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and collaboration in service of our students.

It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of our first six weeks. Our educators have done an outstanding job meeting our students where they are and ensuring the best outcomes for all students. Our incredible principals, teachers and support staff are a critical part of our success. With this in mind, we want to recognize two holidays happening in October: National Principals Month and World Teacher Appreciation Day (October 5). As a way to celebrate our teachers, we interviewed students about what makes their teacher a champion and released this heart-warming video. Stay tuned for a video celebrating our principals later this month, and feel free to find your own way to recognize our teachers and school leaders.

This has been an unprecedented start to school, and I am proud that our district continues to prioritize learning while putting teachers, staff and students in a safe space to do so. Yesterday, Governor John Bel Edwards extended Phase 3 until November 6. We will continue to follow all Phase 3 health and safety protocols, while gradually welcoming more students to campus.

With the second quarter beginning later this month, we are looking forward to having more of our virtual students back in school. As a reminder to families, the window to switch from virtual learning to in-person instruction, and vice versa, is open now through October 19. Please visit your school’s website or contact your school for more information. Once the second quarter begins and we have adjusted to having more of our students back on campus, we will assess the situation and determine if adjustments are necessary at that time.

Thank you to everyone for doing their part to ensure we offer the best possible learning environment for our students. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. We would not be where we are without the support of our families, employees and the community. It's an incredible feeling to see everyone working towards the same goal of building a better future for our children. Keep up the great work.
