Tropical Storm Sally Update 9/15/2020
JP Schools Family,
The latest forecast shows Hurricane Sally will have less of an impact on our region than originally predicted. Because of this, all schools and administration buildings will reopen on Wednesday, September 16 (except Grand Isle). We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school and work tomorrow as all school and district activities will resume as scheduled.
We will make adjustments for our families and employees who live or work in Grand Isle given that the area is under a mandatory evacuation at this time. We will continue to closely monitor that situation and keep you informed.
After closing three days due to Tropical Storm Marco and Hurricane Laura, we had to adjust our Academic Calendar. With 8,762 respondents, 57% voted for a revised Academic Calendar that removed Fall Break. The calendar included accommodations for any additional weather-related school closures. Given the two days of weather-related closures this week, we will make up those two days this semester on November 23 and November 24 to ensure a balanced semester. In order to ensure each semester of the calendar is balanced - which is especially important for high school students - we are not able to extend the school year in May. We will not need to do an additional calendar survey since this calendar built in time for any additional closures. The updated calendar is here.
Please continue to check the district website and our social media channels for the latest information. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we dealt with the anticipated impact of Hurricane Sally.
