The Jefferson Parish School Board recently recognized a pair of lawmakers for going above and beyond for Jefferson Parish Schools children. Jefferson Parish Councilman Byron Lee and Louisiana State Senator Joseph Bouie donated $41,122 to support JP Schools programming that enhances student learning. They were honored by JP Schools administration and board members during the March meeting.
The funds will support the four schools in the JP Schools Transformation Zone: Cherbonnier/Rillieux Elementary, Emmett Gilbert School, Truman School, and Woodmere Elementary. Each school provided input on where these funds could best be utilized. The additional resources will be invested in enrichment activities such as field trips to the State Capitol and research projects about government, a parent homework hotline, and student mentoring programs.
"Councilman Lee and Senator Bouie clearly recognize that COVID has impacted our kids and any additional support is beneficial to our students," said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. James Gray.
