Message from the Superintendent: September 2019
The progress we’ve felt in Jefferson Parish Schools for more than a year is now being seen in the academic outcomes of our kids. The Louisiana Department of Education released two sets of results recently, and both show Jefferson Parish on the rise.
JP Schools high school students achieved the largest growth in Louisiana on Advanced Placement exams. In addition, our students in grades 4-12 grew academically at a rate that outpaced the average state increase. These are exciting steps as we work to push our district forward and ensure our schools are viable options for all families.
This is the time of year when many families in our parish begin researching school options for the following school year. We’re inviting Jefferson Parish families to spend some time learning about the opportunities available at our 15 K-8 schools.
Each school, which serves students in grades kindergarten through eighth, will host a Look & Learn this fall for prospective families who live in that school’s district. These one hour sessions are an opportunity for families to hear from the school’s principal, meet faculty, tour the campus, and learn how their child can grow through the 8th grade.
Our K-8s offer the highest rated curriculum in the state, enriching athletics and extracurricular activities, and a safe, nurturing environment where students are prepared for high school and beyond. You can find each school’s attendance boundaries, Look & Lean dates and times, and more information at jpschools.org/LookandLearn.
If you are looking for a new school home for your child, I encourage you to give our K-8 schools a chance. Great things are happening every day in our classrooms. We invite you to come see for yourself.
