Jefferson Parish Schools Hosts Public Job Fair May 21

As the parish’s second largest employer, Jefferson Parish Schools has not been exempt from the national labor shortage. Louisiana’s largest school system is hosting a public job fair this Saturday, May 21. Normally invite-only, expanding access to its spring job fair is one of the proactive steps system leaders are taking to attract and keep employees.

The job fair is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Truman School at 5417 Ehret Road in Marrero. JP Schools principals and district representatives will be on hand hiring for all positions including teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers. There is also a high need for professionals who are bilingual.

“Our children deserve the best, whether we’re talking about teachers, principals, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, maintenance staff, secretaries, or technicians,” said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. James Gray. “It takes many hands working together to truly serve our kids, and we’re looking for people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.”

The job fair is open to the public. Attendees are asked to arrive no earlier than 7:15 a.m. and should bring multiple copies of their resume and cover letter. Attendees applying for teacher positions should also bring multiple copies of their teaching certificate. More information is available at

Jefferson Parish Schools has approximately 6,400 employees.

The system’s strategic plan, 2024: The Future Our Kids Deserve, prioritizes hiring, keeping, and growing the best teachers and leaders. System leaders have taken a number of additional actions to combat the national labor shortage.
