Superintendent's Message: December 2021

Dear JP Schools Family,

We have officially approached the holiday season and I do so with great anticipation for the new year. Our district has overcome multiple adversities and our ability to look after one another, come together, and move forward, make me proud to serve as your Superintendent.

The District received its simulated District Performance Score (DPS), and I’m pleased to report that we improved from a 71.5 to a 71.6. We are among 20 Louisiana school systems whose DPS improved when compared to 2019, which was the last year scores were issued by the state. In a year disrupted by the pandemic, when declines were expected for school systems across the nation, and when there was a 1.8% dip statewide, our District remained strong. These simulated DPS scores are a small step forward that show Jefferson Parish Schools continue to take steps in the right direction.

This success however, would not have been possible without the help of our families, teachers, support staff, administrators, School Board, and community partners. You are the foundation for learning within our system and it is your commitment, dedication to our children, and passion for educating that fuel our shared success.

I’m proud of the entire JP Schools community and wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season.

Dr. James Gray
