Support Staff Spotlight


Van takes pride in serving his Vietnamese community by teaching children English. Having only lived here five years, he understands the challenges students may face and connects with them on a personal level.


How long have you worked at Pittman and why did you choose your profession?


I have worked for Pittman for almost 5 years and the reason I chose this profession is to make a contribution and influence the community. Not only for Vietnamese students but all ESL students who need translation services.


What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is when the students believe in me and come to me for a solution about their problems in school and even at home.


How do you build relationships with students?

I am kind and patient no matter what happens.


What is something you would like people to know about you?

I’m friendly and willing to take on any challenges.


How does it make you feel to know that you help a student succeed?

It’s amazing. When the students learn independently and do not come to me for the answers, I know I have done my job.


What is your dream vacation?

HAWAII VACATION!!!


What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria?

Pizza is my favorite.


What do you think your students will remember about you?

I hope they remember that I always smile and they probably will remember my English accent.


What motivates you to work hard?

When I see my students progress in learning.


Describe the perfect classroom?

Quiet and students are attentive to the lesson.
