Student Spotlight: Darren Coates Jr., Marrero Middle

Darren Coates Jr. enjoys social studies because it teaches him about people and events that made the world what it is today.

What do you enjoy most about coming to school?

The things I enjoy most about coming to school are seeing my friends and learning cool things in class.

What is something interesting about yourself you would like people to know?

One interesting thing about myself is that I was my school's 20-21 Student of the Year and I was selected as a finalist for Student of the Year for the whole district.

Why do you think it is important to do well in school?

I think it is important to do well in school because school teaches you the skills that you need to succeed in life.

What do you love to learn about?

The thing that I love to learn about the most is history. I think it is cool to learn about life and the world in the past.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I grow up, I want to be a professional athlete or a surgeon. I love sports but I also love helping people. If playing sports doesn't work out, I will become a surgeon to help those that are sick.

What is your favorite thing to do after school?

My favorite thing to do after school is to play sports. I play travel football and baseball, so I have practice pretty much every day. My football team is ranked #2 in the nation.

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

If I were famous, I would be known as a famous athlete that gives back to the community. I think it is important to help others because my family, teachers and coaches help me.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

If I were to describe myself in 3 words, I would say that I am thoughtful, athletic and hilarious.
