Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies Named 2020 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S Department of Education
The U.S. Department of Education awarded Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies with the 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. Metairie Academy is one of 367 schools announced today by the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School.
“Congratulations to Metairie Academy for being recognized at a national level. The National Blue Ribbon School award is a testament to the hard work of our administration, teachers and students,” said Jefferson Parish Schools Superintendent Dr. James Gray. “They deserve this recognition, and the work at Metairie Academy is evidence of the great things happening across our district.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which is managed by the U.S. Department of Education, honors schools that are either high-performing or have closed achievement gaps, especially among minority or disadvantaged students. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels.
Metairie Academy is recognized as an “Exemplary High Performing School.” It is among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments.
This is the second time Metairie Academy has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. They were a National Blue Ribbon School in 2011. This award marks the 15th time a Jefferson Parish School has won the honor.
Past JP Schools winners include: Grace King High (1983), Bissonet Plaza Elementary (1986), Rillieux Elementary (1986), Bonnabel High (1987), Riviere Elementary (1988), Patrick F. Taylor (2010, 2019), Metairie Academy (2011, 2020), Gretna No. 2 Academy (2012), Dolhonde Elementary (2013), Haynes Academy (2013, 2019), Clancy-Maggiore Elementary (2016), and Thomas Jefferson Academy for Advanced Studies (2019).
