Dr. Brumley Hosts Coffee Chat August 26 in Harahan
Jefferson Parish Schools Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley is inviting community members to join him for a cup of coffee and a chat about our schools as part of his Discovery Days visits. The first coffee chat of the new school year will take place August 26 at Caffe Latte Da! in Harahan from 8 to 9 a.m.
“Something we hear time and time again from the community during our coffee chats is how much our families value this open line of communication,” said Dr. Brumley. “Not only do I value the opinions of our community, but we need everyone’s input to achieve our goal of improving outcomes for all students. This work is too big and too important to do alone.”
Community members are invited to talk with Dr. Brumley around five key questions: 1) What are our strengths? 2) What are our challenges? 3) What should we start doing? 4) What should we stop doing? 5) What is possible?
Coffee chats are part of Dr. Brumley’s annual Discovery Days where he spends the day in a JP Schools district. Each Discovery Day begins with a coffee chat, followed by a school visit that includes meetings with students, families, teachers, and administrators.
Schools in each district are drawn at random by each board member. Hazel Park/Hilda Knoff Elementary is hosting the Discovery Days visit on August 26. Schools also hosting Discovery Days visits in 2019-20 are: Cuillier Career Center (September), St. Pierre Academy (October), Woodland West Elementary (November), Grace King High (December), Greenlawn Terrace Elementary (January), East Jefferson High (February), Metairie Academy (March), Bonnabel Magnet Academy High (April), and Terrytown Elementary (May).
Discovery Days are a way for Dr. Brumley to stay connected with the communities he serves as superintendent of the largest school system in Louisiana. This will be the third school year he’s hosted Discovery Days in Jefferson Parish. Click here for more information about Discovery Days.
