JP Schools Launches Public Survey to Help Select New Superintendent
Today was Dr. Cade Brumley’s final day leading Jefferson Parish Schools, and the School Board is wasting little time getting started selecting the next Superintendent of Louisiana’s largest and most diverse school system.
At the request of Jefferson Parish School Board President Tiffany Kuhn, the district is launching a survey to gather feedback on what the public wants to see in their next district leader.
“We are at a critical point in our parish, state, and nation for public education. We have to select the very best leader to guide our district and keep moving our students forward,” said Kuhn. “It’s important we understand the needs of families, the community, and our many other valued stakeholders on this important decision.”
The survey is available now through June 19 at jpschools.org/SuperintendentSearch. Translated surveys are available online in Spanish, Arabic, and Vietnamese. All responses are anonymous.
The Jefferson Parish School Board appointed an interim superintendent and made plans to select the district’s next leader during Wednesday night’s meeting.
Chief Operations Officer Lale L. Geer was named interim superintendent. This is the second time Geer will serve the district in that role. He was also interim superintendent in the spring of 2018. Geer will begin leading the district June 8, which is when current superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley starts as the new Louisiana State Superintendent. Dr. Brumley became JP Schools Superintendent in March 2018.
School board members also voted to begin the selection process for a new superintendent Wednesday. Applications will be made available the week of June 8 at jpschools.org and at the JP Schools Administration Building at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey. Application packets must be hand delivered or postmarked to the JP Schools Administration Building in Harvey by June 24.
