Jefferson Parish Schools is committed to providing high-quality instruction and ensuring every student has the tools, resources, and support needed to succeed. As part of this commitment, the district regularly evaluates how facilities and resources are used to best serve students and families. Through the 2023 Infrastructure and Efficiency Plan (Board approved on April 5, 2023), Jefferson Parish Schools took strategic steps to modernize school facilities, strengthen operations, and better serve students and families. This work remains a priority for the Board, which continues to make long-term, strategic decisions to support students and families across the district. This includes the construction of the new, state of the art, Bunche and St. Ville schools, campus transitions, and updates to school attendance zones.

Approved 2026 School Consolidations and Redistricting

For the upcoming school year, families will see several changes as new schools open and campuses are reorganized to better serve students. Families will receive individual letters with the school assignment for their child based on the new attendance zones. Locate the Approved School Attendance Zone Maps on this page to learn more.

George Cox School Closure
Per School Board approval in 2023, George Cox School will permanently close at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. George Cox School itself is closing and will not reopen. The George Cox facility will remain open to be used temporarily by students assigned to the new St. Ville School. Students attending George Cox School will be reassigned to other schools.

New Bunche Washington School

Construction of the new Bunche Washington School is underway with anticipated occupancy in the summer of 2026. Students who currently attend Bunche will attend school in the new facility for the 2026-2027 school year. Students who attend T H Harris for middle school and live within the Bunche/Washington boundary will transfer to the new Bunche/Washington.

New St. Ville Elementary School
Construction on the new St. Ville School is underway, with anticipated occupancy in January 2027 once the building is complete. Until the new facility opens, students assigned to the new St. Ville School will be temporarily housed at two locations:

Grades Pre-K–4: George Cox facility
Grades 5–8: Woodmere Elementary

Once construction is complete, all St. Ville students will move together into the new St. Ville facility. If there is a delay in the construction timeline and the building is not ready for occupancy in January 2027, students will remain at their temporary sites (the George Cox facility and Woodmere Elementary) until the new school is ready to open.

Isaac G. Joseph and Stella Worley Consolidation

At its December meeting, the Jefferson Parish School Board voted to consolidate Isaac G Joseph and Stella Worley at the Stella Worley location.

Why did Jefferson Parish Schools choose to consolidate schools?

Jefferson Parish Schools made the decision to consolidate campuses after careful review of enrollment trends, facility usage, and long-term sustainability. Like many districts across the country, we are experiencing declining enrollment driven by broader demographic shifts that are impacting birth rates and overall school populations. As a result, several of our campuses are operating below capacity. Consolidation allows us to better align our facilities with current enrollment, use resources more efficiently, and ensure students have access to strong academic programs in well-supported schools.

At the same time, much of our facility footprint was built for a different era. The average age of our school buildings is approximately 60 years, with the vast majority exceeding the typical 50-year life cycle of a municipal facility. Many campuses require significant upgrades to meet modern standards. Consolidation allows us to better align facilities with enrollment, focus investments on higher-quality learning environments, and ensure students are educated in schools that are safe, modern, and built to support today’s academic expectations.

When will these changes take effect?

How is the district managing families’ transportation needs for next school year?

My school is closing or consolidating, do I have to register them?

How are families being informed of changes that may impact them?

My child is currently attending a school that would be consolidated. Where will my child go to school and when will I know?

How is the district handling the purchase of school uniforms?

I am at a school expanding to PK-8 or at a school that may receive additional students next year through consolidation or redistricting. How is the district ensuring my school will be able to hold additional students?

One of the main objectives of the plan was to make more efficient use of our facilities. The results show that most of our buildings are under capacity. The consolidations and expansions in this plan will place the impacted school buildings at adequate capacity or less. Some schools will add students, while others will have fewer students. We will also continue to follow Louisiana guidelines when it comes to student teacher ratio.

My child is entering the terminal grade at their school (5th grade in elementary, 8th in middle). Can they stay at their current school for their final school year?

If your child will be in the terminal grade (5th grade in elementary, 8th in middle) at a school that will remain open, families may submit an Option To Stay Transfer Request if they would like their child to remain at their current school. Families granted Option To Stay Transfers must provide their own transportation. The Option to Stay transfer information can be found on this page under Quick Links.

Will employees at impacted schools lose their jobs under this plan?

Support employees and certificated employees with a satisfactory evaluation working at a school that is closing or being consolidated will maintain their employment, salary, and benefits. Just like the 2020 and 2023 school consolidations and K-8 expansion, the JP Schools Human Resources team will visit schools to meet face-to-face with employees impacted by these changes and get their input on where they would like to work next school year.
