Students can enter our Advanced Studies Academies (ASA) beginning in PreK. To be eligible for PreK, a student must be four years old on or before September 30 of the academic year for which they are applying. Applications are typically accepted in the fall prior to the upcoming school year. For example, applications for the 2026–2027 school year were accepted in September 2025.

PreK guidelines require that a student be four years old on or before September 30. A child who is five years old would not be eligible for PreK.
 

Unfortunately, deadlines are firm, and applications are not accepted after the deadline. Typically, a second application round may be offered in the spring if openings remain and there are no waiting lists.

After you have successfully submitted your application, it will be reviewed to determine if your child is eligible for testing. If eligible, students are scheduled for testing. All eligible applicants must complete testing before any results or admission offers are released. Testing is typically scheduled by grade level (e.g., PK–2 first, followed by grades 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12).

Students who are eligible for testing will be notified by email. You can also check your Novus account for status updates. Once scheduled, the status will read “Test Scheduled.” The test date, time, and location will be listed within the application.

Testing accommodations are provided to students with a current plan (dated within the last year), such as an IEP, IAP, or Service Plan. These documents should be submitted at the time of application. Plans will not be accepted on the day of testing.

Students with an evaluation but without an IEP, IAP, or Service Plan will not receive testing accommodations or modifications. Students must regularly receive these accommodations in an academic setting. Recommendations from a physician alone are not accepted.

If your child attended testing but did not complete it due to refusal or distress, the parent/guardian must contact the Admissions Office in writing by 5:00 PM on the Monday following the scheduled appointment. Emails may be sent to asaadmissions@jpschools.org.

No. Students are tested once, and their scores are applied to both applications.

Students may apply once per academic year. If you applied during the fall application period, you are not eligible to apply again during the second round for that same academic year. However, you may apply again for a future academic year.

Test scores are released after all applicants have completed testing. Typically, applicants from the fall cycle receive scores in February.

If your child is placed on the waiting list, they do not need to reapply during the second round for the same academic year. They will remain on the waiting list until the second day of the second semester of that academic year. If the application for the next academic year opens while your child is still on the waiting list, it is recommended that you apply again in case a seat is not offered.

Per policy, students may only apply once per academic year. However, if seats remain available at the school and grade level and your child scored within ten points of the cutoff score, they may be invited to retest in the summer.

All testing occurs within the window established by the testing department, and individual scheduling requests cannot be accommodated. If a student is unable to attend the initially scheduled date, only one make-up date will be offered, per policy.
