Application dates for Louisiana Public School Choice for the 2026–2027 school year will be from
MARCH 13, 2026 at 3:00 PM through APRIL 24, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
Dates for the New Resident ACT 853 application- June 15th @ 8am - December 16th @ 3pm.
Louisiana School Choice Program Information for NEW Resident Applicants
- Families who live in the attendance zone of a school required to offer choice under Act 853 may apply for a Louisiana School Choice transfer.
- Applications must be submitted within:
- 15 days from the start of the school year, OR
- 15 days from the student’s enrollment date at the new school.
- To apply as a New Resident:
- The student must be currently enrolled in a Jefferson Parish Schools school when the application is submitted.
- ACT 853 New Resident Definition:
- A student who enrolled in the attendance zone of a school required to offer choice under Act 853 on or after March 23, 2026.

Applicants (except 3rd and 4th grade students) who submitted their application by April 24 will receive an email with the decision by May 22, 2026.
Students in 3rd and 4th grade will be notified of their placement after Summer DIBELS (ACT 422) scores are received in mid-July.

Louisiana School Choice (R.S. 17:4035.1) provides choice options to families if the school their child was most recently enrolled in, or would otherwise attend, received a school performance letter grade of “D” or “F” for the most recent school year.
