Ms. Meggs' Message

  • principal of grace king

Hello March and welcome back! I hope that your Mardi Gras was filled with lots of laughter, good times and family fun. Although Mardi Gras was time off for many in the school community, Grace King didn’t stop. Our Fighting Irish band marched in four parades during the season, and they placed third in the Krewe of Argus Band competition. Our Fighting Irish Basketball had an excellent athletic season, and made it to the Play-offs against Ponchatoula High School Green Waves. Grace King hasn’t been in the playoffs for over 20 years, so there was a lot of excitement over the break. Our boys gave it their all, with a score of 61-67, and we’re so proud of them.

We’re looking for the Luck o’ the Irish on March 17th as our juniors and seniors will take the District-wide ACT. While the ACT is being administered, our sophomores will be visiting local college campuses (Dillard University, Nunez Community College, Southern University at New Orleans, University of Holy Cross, and University of New Orleans), and our Freshman Academy will be visiting the Audubon Zoo. Once the ACT is finished, we’ll welcome local colleges, universities and employers to our annual Spring College and Career Fair.

Our students will be Spirited Up and Dressing Down on Wednesday, March 18 for our annual United Way Campaign. A bit of March Madness will touch the campus on March 26th as our seniors take on the faculty and staff in our annual basketball game. Although Prom is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 2, our junior and senior girls will start thinking about it early thanks to our bi-annual Say Yes to the Dress. Student Council interviews for the upcoming academic year will also be held during March, so this is the time to consider how you can make a difference.

As you can see, Grace King educates and cares for the entire student through our various activities and events. It’s going to be a full month, but we’re not worried, because we have the Luck o’ the Irish.

    Full of Irish Pride,

    Ms. Sharon Meggs-Hamilton
