One of the faculty observed that 2020 is the year that continues to give new meaning to the word “flexible” as we have navigated  a plethora of tools in virtual teaching and learning in the midst of a pandemic and two hurricanes that were anticipated to make landfall in the greater metropolitan area. While we are grateful to have dodged those two storms, our thoughts are with our fellow educators and their families located to the north of us who are dealing with the devastating impact of Hurricane Laura.

We know that the transition to virtual learning is exhilarating, frustrating, overwhelming and exciting; sometimes within the span of five minutes. Know that we are working diligently to ensure that our students and their families continue to thrive in spite of these challenges. If you haven’t had an opportunity, please take a moment to look over the content on our website. You’ll find information such as the 2020 bell schedule, meet and greets from the counselors, directions on how to log on to the JPS Student Progress Center, biographies of our leadership team, faculty and staff contact information, our new GK Health Clinic and a new JPS program to make school fee payments

My professional career has centered around what I refer to as the Four A’s: attendance, attitude, attentiveness and accountability. I firmly believe that careful consideration of these attributes will lead to academic success. Whether your child is attending school virtually or on a hybrid schedule, these attributes apply. Students should either be on campus on their designated days or logged on following the bell schedule with the these procedures in place: logged on using first name.last name; the camera turned on for the duation of the class and the student's face visible during class. Parents/guardians will receive a phone call from the school to note an absence or tardiness. More information on our virtual rules and expectations may be found here

Rest assured that the next nine months will be a time of constant growth and reflection for all of us in the KINGdom. We look forward to both the joys and challenges.

    Full of Irish Pride,

    Ms. Sharon Meggs-Hamilton
