  • Jefferson Parish is embarking on our 2nd year of the STAR Academy program. We are thrilled to inform you that you have been selected to apply for the chance to be a part of this great opportunity. This program will allow students to complete both 7th and 8th grade courses in one school year through an acceleration approach.  Interested students who complete an application will then go through a selection process to determine eligibility.    

    Who is it for?

    • Current 6th grade students who have repeated at least one school year. An 
      ideal STAR Academy student should be a student that would benefit from 
      non-traditional hands-on learning and who can work well independently
      and with peers. Students should be able to commit to attending the
      program for the entire school year.

    What is it?

    • STAR Academy is an all-encompassing, all-inclusive acceleration program
      that engages students through hands-on, project based learning. Students
      complete coursework in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Career and Technical education aligned to state standards. Students complete their 7th and 8th grade in one school year and take the 8th grade LEAP at the end of the 23-24 school year.  

    When is it?

    • The 2023- 2024 school year. The program will follow the Jefferson Parish 
      Schools’ calendar.  Students will return to their district high school for the 
      2024 - 2025 school year, if they pass all course requirements.

    Why apply?

    • STAR Academy focuses on the development of relationships with students and families. It provides a strong counselor support system to ensure personal growth and provides at-risk students with an opportunity to enter high school with their cohort of peers, with anticipation of graduating on-time.
