Google Meet Expectations
Due to Coronovirus restrictions, our teachers and students are using new tools to assist with virtual learning. One of these tools is Google Classroom (classroom.google.com). For those that are not familiar with Google Classroom, please watch the Parents Guide to Google Classroom 2020 video. This short video goes over some of the basics of Google Classroom including logging in and navigating the site. All students will use Google Classroom during the 2020-2021 school year. If you are a virtual student, you will log in to Google Classroom every day, Monday thru Friday. If you are a hybrid student, you will log in everyday you are not physically on the school campus (A Day - Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; B Day - Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Notifications were sent out designating if your student is an "A Day" or "B Day" student. If your student is a hybrid student that has not received this information, please call the office at 504-363-4300 between 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. Students will be signing in for every class, including homeroom, at the designated start time for their class. Essentially, they are in front of the computer screen for the whole school day, signing in to each class as though they were changing classes. Attendance will be taken for each class so it is important for your student to log in on time. You may view the bell schedule on the School Schedule page on the Thomas Jefferson website.Information regarding login usernames and passwords for Google Classroom have been sent to the students. If a student is in 6th-9th grade or are newcomers into Jefferson Parish Schools, then their login username will be: firstname.lastname@jpschools.
org. The password is their Student ID Number. If the student attended Thomas Jefferson last year and cannot remember their username or password, please call Ms Kytina at 504-363-4304 for their login information. At this time, student google classroom logins only allow access to the google classroom and google docs. These logins do not have email access. If the login does not work, then you should contact Parent and Student Help Desk Support first at 504-365-5304. If they cannot help you, then please fill out the Google Form Help Request and Ms Russo will get in touch with you. Please understand there may be other students that also need help and we are working as fast as possible to resolve the issues. We ask you for your patience as we are all working through this process.Nearly all of the student schedules are now posted on the Student Progress Center. Simply click on your student's picture, then click on the "Grade" tab at the top and you will see your student's schedule. The administration is still working on a few schedules so those will not be visible. Additionally, students that are just completing registration will not see their student's schedule until it is completed. If this is the case, please check the Student Progress Center daily until the schedule is posted. If you have never used the Student Progress Center, please refer to that section above. Now that you have your students schedule, you are ready to get set up in Google Classroom. Each teacher has created their own Google Classroom and students need their Google Classroom Code to sign in to the class. The teachers are sending out emails to the students to invite them to the class. You may also find these codes on the forms below. Once you have the codes, your student should sign in and verify everything is working in case there is a need to troubleshoot. Please do not wait the day before or the day school is supposed to start to log in for the first time. As school has not officially started, you will not see assignments.

Google Classroom FAQs
MY STUDENT IS WORKING ONLINE. WHY DID I RECEIVED A CALL THAT MY CHILD WAS ABSENT?
Please make sure the student is signing in to the class by the "tardy bell". They must log in for each class, including homeroom. There is a separate bell schedule for middle and high school. You should confirm that your student is following the correct schedule. You can find the Bell Schedule on the School Schedule page. Additionally, your student should be following the FALL Semester Schedule, not the Spring Semester.
The students must complete the “Attendance Assignment” within five minutes of the start of class. It should be the first thing they do once they login and must be completed for every class, including homeroom. The "Attendance Assignment" is located in the Teacher’s Google Classroom under the “Classwork” tab. The teacher will be able to see the date and time the student actually submitted their attendance.
If your student has completed these steps during the correct timeframe, they should be successfully logged in and marked present. If not, they will be marked absent or tardy. You must contact the teacher if you feel there is an error.
WHAT IS GOOGLE CLASSROOM? HOW DOES MY STUDENT SIGN ON? HOW DO WE NAVIGATE THE PAGE?
Jefferson Parish Schools has posted a Family Guide to Google Classroom to help families learn how to use Google Classroom. This is a great resource to help parents and students become familiar with this new learning tool.
WHERE DO I FIND MY STUDENT’S GOOGLE MEET LINK?
You must login to the Teacher’s Classroom to gain access to the Google Meet Code for that class. When you sign in, you will see a box with the period, class name, and teacher name. In the lower left hand corner of the box, you will see the “Meet Link”. Click on the “Meet Link” and your student will be able to join the meet. If you cannot find the "Meet Link", please email your teacher or inform the teacher through the chat feature. The office does not have these codes.

DO PARENTS NEED AN EMAIL ACCOUNT?
As Thomas Jefferson Academy moves many of our school resources online, parents will need a Gmail account to communicate with teachers, administrators, staff, coaches and, at times, the district. If you don't have an existing email account, you can create a free Gmail account. Please visit the Family Guide to Google Classroom page and scroll down to "Create a Gmail Account". Once you create your account, plesae remember to call the office to update your contact information. Emailing is a primary communication source for the adminstrators and necessary for parents and families to stay informed.
