Meet the Assistant Principals
Dr. Gerod Macon, Sr. was born in New Orleans, LA. and was educated in Orleans and Jefferson Parish Public Schools. He is a 1994 graduate of O. Perry Walker Senior High School. He is married to the former Lakiesha Gibbons and is the father to Gerod, Jr. One of his favorite quotes is “direction not intention determines your destination”.
Dr. Macon has matriculated through several institutions of higher learning to prepare him to meet the complexities that life brings. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from the Darryl S. Brister Bible College & Theological Seminary, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from Southern University at New Orleans, a Master of Education from Nicholls State University and a Doctorate of Education degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Additionally, Dr. Macon has studied school leadership extensively, the role of spirituality in the life of principals in southeastern Louisiana for which his dissertation was published, the problems plaguing African American males in the education system as well as the remedy for solving this epidemic.
He has served as the Principal at John Ehret High School (one of the largest high schools in the state) where he also taught social studies courses. He is currently serving as an Assistant Principal at Grace King High School. His responsibilities include but are not limited to 11th & 12th grade administrator, special populations, and data tracking.
Ms. Valerie Johnson began her journey by first earning her Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education from Nicholls State University, and then later attending Southern University in Baton Rouge to earn a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Johnson received her certification in Educational Leadership from the University of Holy Cross. She has taught all grade levels from kindergarten to high school seniors in various subjects. Ms. Johnson joined the Grace King family in 2016 as a Dean of Students, while also serving as the Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Track and Field Coach.
Currently serving as the Assistant Principal over the Sophomore Academy, ESL Department, and the Office of Operations, 2020 marks Ms. Johnson’s fifth year at Grace King and fifteenth year in teaching and learning, and she is looking forward to another year in the KINGdom. As an educator and parent in these unprecedented times, Ms. Johnson wants to ensure that all Grace King students are in a safe environment conducive to learning and receiving high quality instruction. Her goal this year is to remain open-minded with a positive attitude.
Ms. Katrina Torrado earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Secondary Education and a Master's in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of New Orleans. Joining the Grace King family in 2008 as a student teacher, Mrs. Torrado has filled a variety of roles over the years, including English teacher, teacher leader, club and class sponsor, and dean. Currently, she is proud to be serving in her 4th year as assistant principal. In her spare time, Mrs. Torrado enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.
