• What You Need to Know

We are very happy that you will be joining us for the 2023-2024 school year.  Despite the excitement of starting a new school, we know that many students feel nervous because they are not sure of what to expect.  Hopefully, this page will answer many of your questions and help you start your first day Jaguar Strong.  So, take your time exploring the information and don't forget to click the links.  These will take you to the various areas of the website for more details on that topic.

If you have questions not addressed here, you may call the office at 504-363-4300 during school hours.

  • Communications from Thomas Jefferson Academy

Communication is vital.  Without it, parents would not know the important things happening at the school.  You can no longer rely on folders being sent home with your student daily.  We are teaching them to be responsible adults and those building blocks start in 6th grade.  Furthermore, communication from parents is just as vital.  Often, the school needs important information from parents about their students, too! And even though we send these forms home with our students, they may not necessarily get to the parents. So how do we address communication at Thomas Jefferson to ensure nothing falls through the crack?

If you are having trouble viewing the document, you may download the document.
  • Grade Level Google Classroom Codes

As mentioned in the communications letter above, the office shares important information through Grade Level Google Classroom Codes.  Each grade has their own "Google Classroom" where information pertinent to students in that grade is shared.  This is especially useful if you do not want to use Facebook.  The flyer below has the codes for each grade.

If you are not familiar with Google Classrooms, you can learn more by visiting the Google Classroom page (under "Families", click "Resources").

  • Student Progress Center

The Student Progress Center allows parents to access grades, absences, financial obligations, and more  For more information, visit the Student Progress Center page (under "Our School", click "About Us").

  • Thomas Jefferson Academy School Hours

The school day begins at 8:15 am.  The carpool gate will open at 7:45 am.  No students are allowed on campus before 7:45 am.  The school day will end at 3:35 pm.

  • 2023-2024 District Calendar

The School Calendar is set by JP Schools.  This is a handy reference to enter into your personal calendar or print to have available.  It details all the days the students do not attend, as well as important dates such as Parent Conferences.  You may access the calendar on the JP Schools Calendar here.

    Thomas Jefferson Calendar

Another important calendar is the Thomas Jefferson Events Calendar located at the bottom of the Home page.  This calendar is updated regularly and includes athletic events as well as all events that occur at the school.  It is another tool to help parents stay informed and see what is happening at the school.

  • School Supply Lists

School Supply Lists are available on the School Supply Lists page on the Thomas Jefferson website (under the "Our School" tab, click "About Us").

  • Student Class Schedules

Students will receive their class schedules in their homeroom on the first day of school.  How will they know their homeroom teacher?  Once the student is dropped off, they will proceed to the office.  There will be lists on the walls just outside the office to let students know who their homeroom teacher is as well as staff directling those that are unfamiliar with the campus.

  • Bus Transportation

Parents have the option to drive their students to school and/or pick them up at the end of the school day.  This is known as Carpool.  To learn about the process, please visit the Carpool page on our website (under the "Our School" tab, click "About Us").

  • Student Parking on Campus

Driving to school is an exciting right of passage for many of our Thomas Jefferson Juniors and Seniors.  However, on campus parking is very limited and students are restricted to parking in the back parking lot.  At some point during the first month of school, an announcement will be made for those interested in purchasing a parking pass to go to the office and see Ms. Terry to pick up the necessary form that must be filled out and signed by their parent/guardian.  Until that time, Juniors and Seniors may park in the back parking lot on a first come/first serve basis.  For more information, please visit the Parking Information page on the Thomas Jefferson website (under the "Our School" tab, click "About Us").

  • Cafeteria Information

Students are offered a variety of healthy breakfast and lunch meals daily.  Students approved for reduced price meals are charged $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch at all grade levels.  Students paying full price are charged $1.00 for breakfast and $1.75 for lunch.

Parents are encouraged to pre-pay their meals by using MyPaymentsPlus.  The website also allows parents to check student purchases and monitor meal account balances.  For further information, go to www.mypaymentsplus.com or call 877-237-0946.

  • School Cash Online

School Cash Online (SCO) is the online store for Thomas Jefferson Academy.  For safety and efficiency reasons, JP Schools would like to reduce the amount of cash and checks coming into our school.  To learn more about SCO, please visit the School Cash Online page on our website (under "Our School", click "About Us").

  • Faculty and Staff Directory

Every member of the faculty and staff may be reached by email.  Please keep in mind that teachers are often teaching and quite busy during the school day.  They do not answer emails while in class with students.  Administrators receive many directives from the district that must be completed, help teachers, help students, and more during the day.  If you send an email, we ask for your patience and allow at least 48 hours for that individual to respond.  The directory is located on the Faculty and Staff Directory page on the Thomas Jefferson website.

If you have an emergency, please call the office at 504-363-4300.

  • Returning Students

If your contact address or phone number has changed, please do not wait until school starts to update your information.  You may miss out on some important news or updates form the school.

If your address has changed, you should come in to the office to see Ms Bonnie with two proofs of residency (such as a utility bill).

If your phone number has changed, simply send Ms Bonnie an email at Bonnie.Lepine@JPSchools.org and let her know the new contact number.  Make sure you include your name, your student's name, and the grade the student will be attending this fall.

We can't wait to have our Jaguars back on campus!
