The Thomas Jefferson Academy Library is an information oasis located right on campus. Ms Matthews, the librarian, is available to help you find a good book to read or help you with research. Set in a cozy atmosphere, the library houses almost 6,000 fiction and nonfiction books to read, many of which are award-winning books.
With the layout of the library, there are plenty of places for you to curl up and read a good book. We have lots of new books coming in and a growing Manga section for enthusiasts. And don't forget to ooh and ahh over the Seasonal Tree in the library that changes with each season.
However, the library is so much more than books! You can hang out and play board games with your friends or make new friends.
Interested in learning a new hobby or discovering a hidden passion? The library has Makerspace resources such as: American Sign Language cards and books; a scarf/hat loom and yarn; cookbooks; crochet and knitting yarn, books, hooks, and needles; sidewalk chalk; and origami paper and books. Not sure what to try? There are Makerspace Mondays every three or four weeks when you can stop by during lunch and take a look at some of the projects. Ms Matthews can let you know when to expect the next Makerspace Monday.
Every week Ms Matthews posts the Question of the Week on an interactive bulletin board where students are encouraged to engage and post their answers. Throughout the school year, the library will also host poetry contests, scavenger hunts, Madlib Mondays, and Two Truths and a Lie Tuesdays. Do you have extra books lying around that you no longer need or want? Bring it to the library for a book swap and bookmark giveaway where you bring books and take books home. For more information on these events and more, please see Ms Matthews.
We want the library to be a relevant and integral part of your life here at Thomas Jefferson. To achieve this, we do need your help. Do you know something that will make the library better? Share it with Ms Matthews by putting your suggestion in the Treasure Chest. Is there a book or series you are interested in but we don't have one? Put the suggestion in the Treasure Chest. The only way we will know there is a need is if you share it with us!
