Jefferson Parish Schools (JPS) is now accepting charter applications from high quality operators to bring additional educational options to Jefferson Parish. The district invites charter operators who are interested in turning around existing schools, as well as establishing brand new schools, to submit applications for the 2020 application cycle.
Through a continued partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), JPS will review and select charter schools through the state-developed application process and according to the state’s timeline.

Forms and Information Needed for Submission of a Type 1 or Type 3 Charter School Proposal
In compliance with R.S. 17:3982, Jefferson Parish School Board is making public through our website, and in printed form upon request, the guidelines for submitting a charter proposal, all forms required for submission of a charter proposal, the timelines established for accepting and reviewing charter proposals, the process that will be used to review charter proposals submitted to the board, and the name and contact information for a primary point of contact for charter proposals.

In addition, applicants should complete the Additional JPS Question Set found here.
The common application requires applicants to complete five sets of documents:
- A charter proposal written in response to the questions posed in the common application
- An eligibility form (use the JPS form found here) *Background checks date has been revised
- Finances template,
- Background check forms,
- Overview template (new operator or experienced operator)

Charter School Process Schedule
January 24, 2020: Letter of Intent due no later than 3pm - Follow the guidelines found here. – Upload via website
February 6, 2020: Eligibility Determination Form due no later than 3pm.
March 6, 2020: Applications due not later than 3pm
Applicants should upload the five required sets of documents from the common application and the JPS Additional Questions responses on the website upload.
*Incomplete applications may not be reviewed for approval.
March 12 – April 13, 2020: Initial Application Review/Independent Application Evaluation
April 13, 2020: Clarifying Questions Sent to the Applicants
April 21, 2020: Response to Clarifying Questions due from Applicants (First Response)– via website upload
May 07 – May 11, 2020: Applicant Capacity Interviews (In Person)
May 15, 2020: - Final Evaluation Recommendations from Independent Evaluator delivered to JPS
May 18, 2020: – Applicants Optional Rebuttal due (Second Response) – via website upload
June 2020: Jefferson Parish School Board considers applications
Charter Application Review Process
All charter applications will be reviewed by an independent evaluator with educational, organizational, legal, and financial expertise. Applicants will have the opportunity to provide to the evaluator a written response to the independent evaluation of their charter application before the evaluator provides a final recommendation to Jefferson Parish School Board.
